OUSU Gaza motion fails
After a four and half hours of debate, OUSU council has voted to abandon its controversial motion on the Israel conflict

After a four and half hours of debate, OUSU council has voted to abandon its controversial motion on the conflict in Gaza.
The motion, in its original form, would have required the Student Union to condemn the Israeli attack and write letters in support of the ceasefire to Foreign Secretary David Milliband and his Israeli counterpart Tzipi Livni.
The debate involved discussing eight amendments and having 41 different votes on moves to vote and changes to standing orders.

It's nice to hear this! Nobody wants to curtail free speech or activism but allowing a students union (who represent jews, muslims, israelis and palestinians) to pass judgement on a conflict that is so close to many students hearts, that will alienate large groups of students is WRONG! March, educate, debate but don't make the entire union pass judgement. It will only cause divisions! WELL DONE!
