Be part of Cherwell in print and online

With a history in Oxford stretching back to 1920 and boasting esteemed alumni such as Evelyn Waugh and John Betjeman, Cherwell is the country’s most prestigious independent student newspaper. If you don’t believe us, ask our resident Archivist Chris Baraniuk or take a peek at the The Guardian Student Media Awards.

At Cherwell we pride ourselves on recruiting the best students to continue our tradition of excellence in student media. This allows us to maintain a consistently high standard year upon year. We take great care to nurture this talent and in turn help individuals develop valuable professional skills. Every year we seek the best student writers, photographers, designers, technicians and  entrepreneurs.

Cherwell has an income in excess of £200,000, and is run entirely by students under Oxford Student Publications limited. All profits are reinvested in the company for the maximum benefit of future generations of students. Forget student-union-sponsored pamphlets, this is the real thing. Cherwell is almost 90 years old, and its sister magazine, Isis, was founded in 1892. If you’d like to play your part in supporting and innovating student journalism, apply now.

Oxford Student Publications Limited values hard work, creativity and talent.  Our staff gain invaluable work experience and learn first-hand about the rapidly evolving British media industry. To be part of the country’s most successful independent student newspaper, phone, email or come along to our stalls at Freshers’ Fair in 0th week. We'd also love for you to join us at one of our weekly editorial or business meetings.

Specific roles currently being recruited are listed below. Call us on 01865 246 461 or email recruitment[at]cherwell.org or more information.
